Celebration

#danceeducator #danceparent Jul 02, 2025

We invite you to explore EVERYTHING
you could be celebrating this week, especially YOU.

When is the last time you celebrated yourself as mindfully and intentionally as a holiday you celebrate? We're typically really good at planning and shopping for that perfect holiday meal, finding and hanging the appropriate festive decor, or selecting our favorite fireworks to display. These are examples of intentional actions you perform to ensure the best holiday experience possible.

In working with our dance community, we find most of us are not very good at celebrating ourselves. It is important to take time to reflect and think on your season or journey and give yourself praise and recognition for the wins, accomplishments, and growth thus far. It is important to remember growth is never a linear process. It can be easy to pay more attention to the downfalls, mishaps, and hardships and allow those to carry more weight than the successes.

Wins are happening every day, no matter how small.

-Maybe, you held stronger boundaries with your clientele this past year?
-Maybe, you increased student enrollment by 20%?
-Maybe, you received positive feedback at Nationals from a challenging parent?
-Maybe, you prioritized non-working lunch breaks this past year?
-Maybe, you created one of your favorite routines you've ever done?
-Maybe, you got through some tough battles no one knew you were facing?

But How Do We Do This?
It can be something really small as long as it's intentional. If you're going to grab a coffee on the way to work, remind yourself "Dear self, this is a coffee for that beautiful, meaningful lyrical routine you choreographed this season. I'm proud of you." Then indulge and enjoy.

If you are struggling with how to implement a moment of celebration, here are some ideas:

  • Purchase an item you've been wanting
  • Spa service of choice
  • Treat yourself to a desired meal
  • Plan a dinner with a friend
  • Have a dance party in your living room
  • Take yourself on a date
  • Engage in a hobby you love (art, music, gardening)
  • Do something you wouldn't normally do for yourself
  • Plan a solo or group trip
  • Create a vision board
  • Go see a movie
  • Schedule that appointment you've been putting off
  • Hike or spend time in nature
  • Write yourself a love note
